HRM MEMO: PPL&C TPW ROW Go-Live June 1

The online Right-of Way Permit through HRM’s Permitting, Planning, Licensing & Compliance (PPL&C) Solution will Go Live on June 1st, 2021. Click here to read the full memo.
Release 1 of the PPL&C went live in December 2020, and included Permitting, Customer Online Portal and ePayment functionality for all P&D and HRWC related permits. The TPW Right-of Way Permit is a new addition to the online solution. This new permit should not be confused with the Development – Right of Way Permit, currently online and used for right-of-way work associated to development such as new builds and renovations.

Have employees submit applications on behalf of your organization

Know immediately if other work permits are required

Easily track all your permitting and building inspection activity, from initial application to completion, renewal, or expiration

Request inspections when you're ready
If you or your employees are currently registered users, there is no change required within the PPL&C system. You will be able to begin applying for the new Right-of-Way permit beginning June 1, 2020. HRM MEMO: PPL&C Outage May 28 - June 1

Upcoming planned outage of the new HRM PPL&C solution for online permit applications from 6pm May 28 until 5am June 1, 2021. Click here to read the full memo. During this time, both the internal staff portal and the Online Customer Portal will be unavailable to our customers and staff. No new applications will be accepted during this time and activity on submitted applications will be limited.

The upgrade includes:

Improvements to customer experience.

Enhancements to the Application, Contractor Profile, Payment, and My Activity areas of the Customer Portal.

The addition of our Mobile Inspector Application. This new feature will allow Building Officials and other inspectors to complete inspections digitally onsite. Inspection reports will be available for customers through their Customer Portal Accounts same day.
The timing of this planned outage overlaps with fee increases being implemented by the Halifax Regional Water Commission (HRWC) which come into effect on May 31, 2021. If you are preparing an application, it must be submitted online and fees paid prior to 6:00 p.m. May 28, 2021 to ensure your application is processed with the current HRWC fees.

There will be further communication when the Online Customer Portal is back open on June 1, 2021.
Passing of Denis Morris and Gordon Weld

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Denis Morris and Gordon Weld. Both of these men were significant members of the Design and Construction Industry in Nova Scotia. Denis Morris Sr. was founding partner at Morris & Richards Engineering and a founding member and past President of DCI and received a Distinguished Member award from DCI in 2014. Read his obituary here. Gordon was a founding partner of WHW Architects (Webber Harrington Weld, now A49) and also received a DCI Award. Read his obituary here.
HRM Memo - Metric Drawing Submissions

HRM is moving to a new online permitting, planning, licensing and compliance solution (PPL&C solution). The first release is permitting and inspections, along with the ePayment solution and Customer Portal. There is information about the new system on the HRM website. The new system allows you to apply for your construction permit online. This new system also triggers a requirement for drawings to be submitted in metric. More details can be found in the HRM Construction Permit Pre-Application Guide. Bill 119

TIR and the Department of Justice (DOJ), are very happy to report that Bill 119, an Amendment to the Builders Lien and Prompt Payment Act, has been passed on Friday April 12th. Nova Scotia is now the second Canadian jurisdiction to have passed such legislation! Click on the clink for more information.
