Andrea Doncaster

Board Member

Andrea Doncaster began her Engineering education at Acadia University before attending the Technical University of Nova Scotia, where she earned both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Engineering. Andrea worked in the private sector for 15 years before deciding to strike out independently. Over 13 years, her firm has grown from a sole proprietorship to an Engineering firm with over 10 staff.  Andrea Doncaster Engineering Limited helps clients bring their building aspirations to life by providing innovative, effective, and affordable residential structural engineering and design solutions. 


From 2012-2019 Andrea served as an Engineer-in-Residence at Dalhousie University, bringing real-world experience to the classroom. She continues to guide the next generation of engineers through regular participation in Dalhousie’s Capstone Project and mentoring EITs through Engineers Nova Scotia. Andrea Doncaster Engineering Limited has been a regular employer of Engineering Co-op students for nearly 10 years and has hired numerous Engineers-in-Training.


Andrea is a seasoned engineering professional with nearly three decades of experience, specializing in residential construction and wood design. She has a proven track record of driving innovation and efficiency in fast-paced environments, with a keen ability to manage projects and lead diverse teams towards achieving engineering excellence. She is a past member of the Structural Design Committee of the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes​. She is currently a voting member of the National Model Code Committee (NMCC) on Referenced Documents.​
